Pleating Stencils and Flowers

I saw this tutorial by caljava online and Anna Ellison of Charm City Cakes West.  Caljava  has the most beautiful sugar flowers! I can't wait to place my first order! I decided to try pleats especially since I just bought a quilting ruler last week! I works great for cutting fondant! And I'm most happy with my little sugar flower that I made!

Disney's Frozen Theme (more ideas) and Help From The Boyfriend

The boyfriend is great a sculpting characters!  He likes RC cars and planes better than helping me make cakes though. After I showed him my Elsa from yesterday he agreed to help me make Olaf. I tried to talk him into making Sven too but he said I was pushing my luck. We did watch several youtube clips out there on Disney's Frozen themed cakes. There are some talented cake makers and sculptors out there for sure! I decided that tomorrow I'm going to have the images in the above picture printed on edible paper at a local cake supply store.

Disney's Frozen Themed Cake Practice with Fondant

Use pink, yellow, and very small amount of blue to make skin colored fondant (See picture Below as well)

Trace your image on wax paper and then cut it out (See picture below)

I completely messed this up!!! I went and bought some fine tip food color writers so hopefully - Elsa will look more like Elsa and less like Brooke Shields with too much eyeliner!

Today I made some Frozen Characters...that would scare a five year old! I'm going to have to come up with another plan for this cake!!! I might possibly use edible images because five year olds can be very discerning and a co-worker has asked me to make a cake for her baby girl! Stay tuned to see the next post. Hopefully my the characters will look 100% better!

Measuring Cups

Aren't these the cutest measuring cups ever? They came from World Market. The boyfriend bought them for me for Easter and they have been back ordered, and so I have been eagerly waiting for them. Yesterday when I dropped my other measuring cup on the tile floor and it broke he told me that he had a surprise for me! He then took me to the store and told me these had finally arrived.

Some Days Are Just Practice Days

Today was just one of those days where everything didn't turn out quite right...see pictures below.
The only thing that I managed to do that came out remotely nice was write my name in royal icing and showcase some of my previous cakes in a nifty photo collage. I made a batch of blue royal icing in an attempt to dress up a cake, but my royal icing skills need some work. I even tried to make a hibiscus flower from a wilton youtube video that I have included the link to below... I will try again because I think that they are beautiful. --- just not today! I think today is off because I broke a measuring cup by dropping it on the floor and powdered sugar flew out of the mixer and EVERYWHERE! - p.s. this has never happened to me before and I use powdered sugar all the time! I think today is an off day!

Peacock Cake

The finished cake!

I thought the leaves on this lace mold from Wilton would make some nice peacock feathers!
Wilton white icing color mixed with wilton blue gel color! Yes they make white icing food color!

Brushed some luster dust on the edges for some sparkle!

Marvelous molds!

Wilton sugar sheet wrapped second tier!

Today I make a snazzy peacock cake! :)
